Retro Tuesday!

Earlier today, I found this super cute Samsonite carry-on bag in a flea market for $2.  Samsonite suitcases and carry-ons are one of the things I look for every time I thrifting, so I'm always super excited when I find one.  It's in wonderful condition, and the perfect shade of  brown.  It's going to make the cutest purse for Fall, I do believe!

Retro Tuesday!

I thought today would be the perfect day to introduce you to Desi, my trusty sewing machine.  (Can you guess why he's named Desi? :])  I purchased Desi a couple of years ago from a sweet lady who had just upgraded her sewing machine to better teach her two young daughters.  I knew he was a pretty old sewing machine, but I actually had to look in the manual to see just how old he was.  The manual is copyright 1988 - one year before I was born!  So, he's not super vintage, but close enough.

He has a few quirks to him, and he's not as fancy as newer sewing machines, but I love him just as much, if not more.  He's been with me since I really got into sewing, and I couldn't imagine using any other sewing machine.  Many of my upcoming Etsy products will be made by Desi! (And me, too! :])

I'm off to go spend my evening making fabric tags with Clark, and more time with Desi later. :]

Retro Tuesday!

For this week's Retro Tuesday, I thought I would share my small collection of cameras.  I have here a Minolta, a Polaroid SX70 Land Camera, a 35mm Holga, a Polaroid 600 One Step, and an Olympus!  The Holga is the only one that isn't vintage.  Unfortunately, the Polaroid One Step is the only one that currently works. :(  I found the SX70 in an antique store, and was hoping with all my might that it worked.  I purchased some film for it off of Ebay, only to discover that the shutter button jams when the film pack is in. :[  I was so sad!  Hopefully I can someday repair it.

Sorry for the lack of photo challenge updates.  Life has gotten in the way.  I'll be back tomorrow with all of the missing photos!

Retro Tuesday!

I love vintage kitchenware of all sorts, but especially teacups and coffee mugs.  Used to, when I had a kitchen of my own to store them in, my basket at the thrift store would have three or four every time.  I don't search for them as much anymore, but occasionally one will catch my eye and make its way into my basket.

I just love the patterns on them.  Dishware simply doesn't look like it used to, much to my dismay.  Plus, using my pretty vintage cups makes my day feel so much more special. <3

Retro Tuesday!

This week I'm sharing with you the beginnings of my vintage Pyrex collection.  Boy oh boy, do I love vintage Pyrex.  The colors and patterns are so pretty!  The first two I found at the same time in one of my favorite thrift stores in Oklahoma City.  They were a little pricey for what I would pay at a thrift store, but I had to have them!  Especially the yellow and brown one.

I found the blue snowflake dish at an antique store for $5(!), and the pink one was a Christmas gift from Sean's mom.  I had been hunting a piece of pink Pyrex forever, but I could never find one that wasn't ridiculously expensive.  (Story of my life, right?)  So for Christmas last year, she hunted one down and snatched it up for me.  I just adore it.  The color and print is perfect.

I have one more little mini yellow Pyrex dish that I didn't photograph.  Other than that, this is all I currently have.  However, every time I go thrifting, I look to expand my collection. :)

Retro Tuesday!

For this week's Retro Tuesday, I thought I would share my favorite piece of furniture - my mid century hutch. I had been searching for the perfect hutch for months when I found her in an antique mall in Lewisville, TX. She was everything I had been searching for! But once I looked at the price tag, I realized she was only a dream. She was out of our price range. Disappointed, I moseyed on. I tried to forget about how close I was to my dream hutch. Little did I know, Sean had snuck to the front of the store and put the hutch on layaway as an early anniversary present! He found me later and told me that she would be mine, although I would have to wait a few months. I was over the moon! I would finally have my ever-so perfect dream hutch.

We were able to get her a few months later when we moved to our new place. I had originally intended to store my vintage dish collection in her, but since we no longer have a kitchen, she holds my books and yarn. Of course, I was able to set out a few of the vintage dishes I couldn't bare to store.

Surprisingly enough, I haven't named her yet. (I love naming things, in case you couldn't tell! :) ) Any suggestions?

Retro Tuesday!

I love looking for rotary dial phones when I'm out thrifting.  Surprisingly enough, I rarely ever find them, especially in my favorite colors.  (My favorite things seem to be the ones I can never find!)  

As with most other vintage things I love, old rotary phones have style and personality.  Everyone has a cell phone these days, and even though you can put different shells on them, I still think they look a bit boring.  I also miss the days when people didn't have a cell phone attached at the hip.

I'm not sure if this little lady works.  If it did, I'd consider putting in a landline just so I could talk on it!  What do you think of old rotary phones?  Do you like them more than today's cell phones?

Retro Tuesday!

Whoops, this post is up a few minutes late! But I'm here with this week's Retro Tuesday. I thought I would share with you part of my collection of vintage linens!

Vintage linens are one of my favorite things to hunt for.  I can't resist them!  The colors and patterns are always so pretty.  In my experience, thrift stores have the best stock, and the most affordable.  Occasionally though,  I'll find some inexpensive sets in antique stores.
I plan on turning some of these into items for my Etsy shoppe, but some I simply can't part with.  Like the one with the red, blue, and yellow flower, towards the bottom...it's a tablecloth!  I love it too much.

Retro Tuesday!

This week's Retro Tuesday finds came from a somewhat sketchy-looking thrift store in Arlington.  My mom and I were a little apprehensive going in, but when we saw the sign on the door that said '4th of July Sale!  Everything In Store - 50% Off!', we charged in!

My first finds of the day were these two mushroom-themed items!  Actually, my mom spotted the embroidery, and snatched it up because she knew I would love it.  I squealed with excitement when I found the mushroom canister.  I have one of the smaller ones, but I rarely find them in thrift stores, especially the bigger ones.  And I  never find them with their lids.  My mom told me that in the 70's, she had received the exact same set of mushroom canisters as a wedding gift, but thought they were ugly, so she returned them! (If only she would have known that someday she'd have a daughter who loves them!)

My next find were these vintage pillowcases.  They're both so cute, but the striped one is my favorite.  And luckily, I found two of the striped ones!  I wish I would have had the patience to dig through their linens more, though.  All of the pillowcases rang up at $0.50/each!

And my final find (that I still can't get over!!) was this adorable vintage button-up shirt.  My mom and I believe it has to be from the 70's.  It's in near perfect condition, and it's polyester!  Eep!  I can't wait to pair it with some jeans and white sandals. <3

Retro Tuesday!

For this week, I just had to share the vintage kitchenware booth I discovered in an antique mall a few weeks ago.  This booth was tucked away in a far corner, like a secret this antique mall was just waiting to tell.  You wouldn't believe the amount of retro kitchenware this person had acquired.  I doubt my photos even show half of it!  I wish I could say a piece made it home with me, but not only do I no longer have a kitchen of my own, it all cost a pretty penny, too.  Hopefully I'll be furnishing a new kitchen of my own in the not-so-distant future, so I take some of these pretty things home with me.

Retro Tuesdays!

I would like to introduce my newest weekly blog feature, Retro Tuesdays!  Every Tuesday I will showcase one (or two, or three) vintage items I've found throughout the week, through thrifting, antiquing, or garage sales.
This week's item happens to be my new love - my vintage Royal typewriter.


I found this sweet, deep cornflower blue typewriter in my favorite thrift store in Oklahoma City.  It seems as though it was fate!  I had scoured thrift stores and antique malls for months in search of a working, mid-century typewriter that wasn't too expensive.  Much to my dismay, I could never find them.  Never!  Only one time did I find a typewriter like this one - a yellow one - but it's price tag was much too high.
I had begun to give up hope.  The typewriter I had so longingly dreamed of was not meant to be mine.  But then, it happened.  An average stop at my favorite thrift store, on an average trip to my parents' house, led me to this darling typewriter.  As if he had been waiting for me all along!
I gasped when I saw him, and immediately checked him over to make sure he wasn't damaged.  And he wasn't.  I asked Sean to quickly scoop him up for me, before someone else snatches him out of my life forever.  Sean carefully picked him up and went to pay for him while I browsed a little more.  When we returned to the car, I saw that Sean had put him in the front seat and buckled him in.  (Yes, we are that weird. :) )
I got him to my parents' house, cleaned him up, put in some paper, and crossed my fingers that he worked.  Much to my delight, he works like a dream (although he needs a new ribbon)!  I also chose to name him Clark, as it seems so fitting for such a dapper young gentleman.
I love him so much that I've now posted about him twice, haa.
